Purple Dead Nettle

 ABOUT PURPLE DEAD NETTLE

Purple Dead Nettle, sadly, is considered a weed by most people, but it is a hidden powerhouse. It is a very short-lived herb. It is only bright green and vibrant for a short period of time. I am a firm believer in foraging and using the seasonal herbs in season. So when this pops up in my food forest, I make sure to harvest it. This year, I was able to freeze-dry it all.

"I practice regenerative and permaculture methods.
I never use pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or store-bought fertilizers,
not even organically approved ones."

It has a dense concentration of vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds like:

Vitamins C, K, A, and Iron. It has Polyphenols and Flavonoids like Quercetin. These compounds have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antihistamine properties, potentially reducing inflammation, allergies, and oxidative stress. Quercetin is noted for easing allergies and chronic inflammatory conditions like rheumatism. Don't forget the antibacterial compounds, too. Said to be effective against bacteria like E. coli and Staphylococcus.

I encourage you to look into all the ways to use this great herb. It can be used in teas (like this one), tinctures, infusions, and added to so many things!
